< back to blog home

Hi! I haven’t posted a blog in over a month now. I have been a bit busy to say the least. Between getting married, traveling for my honeymoon, my cousin’s wedding, and my dad’s doctorate graduation…I am VERY happy to be home and to get back into a routine. It was so fun being with family and getting some rest by the beach and the memories we made were incredible.

I will post a blog eventually about my wedding day, honeymoon, and other updates but my photographer/good friend Kim has to put up with my indecisiveness LOL…she came over to ask me how I would like my photos edited and I am not kidding you she showed me so many different edits and I said “oh wow I love that” to every single one so she is left a little puzzled on how to edit them. She said she went from 6000 photos to 1400 or so…which is wild.

So after we got married we took two nights to rest before we left early in the AM for our honeymoon. We spent a week relaxing by the pool and eating more nachos than you can imagine. Then when we got home I had one and barely half a night to rest before we got back on the airplane to travel to San Diego for my cousins wedding.

The first full day we were there, my cousin who was getting married was driving me to a coffee shop to meet up with my sisters. I was talking to him about the wedding day and what to expect and how sweet and exciting it was that he was getting married. He parked the car and I was looking for my wallet and couldn’t find it for the life of me. I then “re-traced” my steps as I have had to learn how to do…and I then remembered that the night before I had put my wallet in my chick-fil-a bag that got thrown away into the big dumpster outside. Scary moment…but my cousin was the hero of the day and drove back and found it! Praise! I bought him a coffee cake and Hinds Feet on High Places the visual journey, as his reward. And then after that I got the best coffee in the world…iced lavender latte from a coffee shop called Kettle, Coffee, and Tea.

My cousin is 9 months older than me and so it was pretty special to get married only two weeks apart. I loved relaxing and actually eating at his wedding. Haha! His wedding was up in the mountains of Murrieta and I am not kidding it was probably the prettiest wedding I have ever attended. The overlook was gorgeous, and my new cousin Elyse has such a beautiful and artistic eye for details. She had been collecting little vases from the 99 cent store, and thrifted so many candle holders and different decor. It was stunning.

It was so fun being with my family and spending some quality time with my grandparents, aunts, uncle, and cousins. We played this game called Coup and I wasn’t very good at it, but the game intrigued me. I ended up buying it and now we play it almost every night.

On our last day in San Diego, my sisters and I drove to Encinita Beach area and went shopping and just enjoyed the little town. We had a little shopping spree and I bought a couple of shirts in this super cute boutique.

On our way back to our cousins apartment, my sisters and I were trying to find a plant nursery to leave our new cousin, Elyse, a pretty plant. Since the Shuler girls (and our cousin Elyse) are known for being plant lovers, we thought this would be a sweet/fun way of inviting her into the fam. We found Monstera plants for $20. Which we were SO excited about so we each bought our own. And I found a 6 inch cactus for $18 which in DC would cost around $45. So I bought that too. Then we had to figure out how to back that to bring it home. HAHA

We wrapped the pot with saran wrap and then had the leaves stick out of our backpack. I wrapped my cactus in a tank top Ha. Going through security was interesting because they pulled our bags over and I had to tell the lady that I DID indeed have a sharp object in my bag. She was shocked to hear it was a cactus. She said that she had “never really seen that before.” She then proceeded to take very good care of it.

If you want to be loved and cared for in the airport, walk around with your sisters and plants in your backpacks. People were offering us ice for our plants, and asking us so many questions. We even were adoringly called “my sisters” by an old man…which was either creepy or sweet, you can decide. Like every single time we passed him he said, “my sisters.”

I will post more soon, but I hope you enjoyed this San Diego post 🙂

I enjoyed your post, it was fun! It seems with the Shuler girls there is hardly ever a dull moment (wallet in Chick-fil-A bag???, please tell all). If you got those plants back across the country in one piece, I’ve gotta hand it to you, LOL.
