Finding Rest in Christ

November 10, 2019

< back to blog home

I was reflecting recently as I was talking to someone I love who was saying she was going through a difficult time after she poured her heart out and ministered to people. I knew the feeling all too well.

There are times where I feel a certain sense of direction on what to write about and share with others, where if I didn’t share, it would be as if I was disobeying. I would notice that after I would share about a certain topic, I would guard my heart during and after posting the blog. When I would write about physical boundaries while Luke and I were dating, we noticed that week would be filled with more temptations than normal. Luke and I both started to recognize it and so we started to call it out and pray through it.

What the enemy tries to use to harm, God uses to glorify Him. I recently spoke to a group of women about intimacy and purity, and I recognized after that I was feeling empty or exhausted. I asked my mom, why? She said that after you pour into others so much, you must go back to be refilled by Christ. Nothing else would fulfill me.

I recognized that it’s so important to continually go to the place that brings rest and fulfillment. Whatever our gifts are, even if we are navigating through our gifts, we can still find ourselves in a place of exhaustion.

With this kind of exhaustion, no sleep will cure it. No amount of tea or coffee will wake me up or fill me. I realized this and at first I was confused because in a lot of ways I thought I would be energized after sharing & filled with excitement about what God is doing.

Anyways, I wanted to write this, to give encouragement to those who are working and doing what they know God called them to do, but they’re feeling exhausted. The only place where we will find rest and be filled up is going back to Christ to be refilled again.

When we are the fountain that keeps giving, there has to be a source of water we are giving from. Letting the water flow continually without going back to Christ will eventually make your fountain dry out.

Read through Psalm 62 here.
Isaiah 40:30-31
2 Corinthians 4:16

I love you guys and I pray and hope that you are encouraged.

Thanks for reading,
